Dr. Deepa was invited as a speaker at the Capacity Building Workshop on “Enabling Access to Commercialization: Compliance Frameworks for Biological Materials,” organized by BIRAC on June 3, 2026, in New Delhi.
The workshop was designed for researchers, scientists, startups, and innovators engaged in biological material-based research and development, with a focus on understanding regulatory and compliance requirements associated with commercialization.
During her session, Dr. Deepa shared insights on the significance of disclosing biological materials in biotechnology patent applications, the legal frameworks governing such disclosures under the Indian Patents Act and international agreements, and the implications of non-compliance, including patent validity and enforcement considerations.
The session also covered relevant case studies and practical considerations for innovators navigating the intersection of biotechnology research, intellectual property protection, and regulatory compliance.
The workshop provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and discussions on strengthening awareness of compliance requirements that support innovation and commercialization in the biotechnology sector.
